Quiz/puzzle/word search- Competition for BSc chemistrystudents St. Ann's Degree College in Association with Royal Society of Chemistry (London)-Indian Deccan Local Section conducted Top of the Bench' (Hands on Experience) Competition for BSc students on 1st October,2016 The event was devised in such a way so as to test the students practical and theoretical knowledge on the subject.
The event began with a brief introduction from the Principal of the College followed by a welcoming speech by the Head of the Department of Chemistry Dr Radha of St. Ann's. The chief guests of the event is Prof. V Peesapati gave a brief speech about the role of chemistry, how important it is in our day to day life.
the schedule of the program was a series of competitions with a definite time limit. Twenty Teams participated in the event .The first segment of the competition was a Practical Experiment to synthesize Acetyl Salicylic Acid (Aspirin). The procedure, required apparatus and chemicals were provided.Results were judged based on the yield of Aspirin and questions regarding the experiment . Second segment, two Puzzles with a triangle and hexagon were provided and 10 mins time limit to solve the puzzles. The puzzle in triangle shape was related to Organic Chemistry while the hexagonal shaped puzzle was related to the Elements in the Periodic Table. 
the third segment had a series of, short yet very interesting, competitions with time limits ranging from 2-5mins for each competition. The series of competitions included Word Search, Crossword Puzzles, Name of the Reaction, Bingo, Questions Related to States of Matter, and Acids and Bases. This was followed by a Quiz, five questions related to chemistry and one was a general knowledge question. Each question carried 10 marks to be answered within 15 seconds. 
            Every competition in the series carried some marks and the team with the most marks would eventually win the competition. Since there were Twenty teams   The three Consolation Prizes won by three teams of St. Ann's Degree college. The First Prize was won by the chemistry team 1). Sandeep -BSC III B-BZC 2).L, Antenello Benjamin- BSC IIA -MPC of Sardar Patel College
        The event was concluded by the motivational speeches from Lecturers of the Chemistry Department St.Ann's Degree college for women. The event was planned and performed very well. It was exciting and quite enjoyable with fun and fascinating puzzles .
