Departmental Activities 2019-2020 Power Point Presentation on Water crisis and Conservation methods
As a part of curricular and co-curricular activities, Sardar Patel College conducts various activities in the college for all round development of students. In this connection English Forum organized an awareness program
on “Water Crisis and Conservation Methods” and about “Be My Eyes” app which lends vision to solve some simple tasks for visually impaired people at seminar hall for all students of B.A, B.Com and B.Sc on 5th November-2019.
M. Umamaheswari from B.SC final year presented a power point presentation on importance of water, water scarcity prevailing, reasons for it and finally suggested some conservation methods. Some amazing facts about water
were given by a B.Com first year student. It is found to be worthy since students and faculty members gave a positive feedback on this ppt and they said that it has become a common problem at national and International
level and they are motivated by the conservation methods which they would follow from then.
Information about “Be My Eyes” app was given by an M.B.A final year student which was found to be interesting and motivating to the audience. She proclaimed that anyone can become a volunteer through this app to lend vision
to blind in solving their some daily activities. On the whole the motto of “English Forum” is to bring up the students with rational thinking, good manners, organization of thoughts persuasion and public speaking and
henceforth to become a good citizen. As a part of it some discussions on societal problems prevailing in the society are discussed so that they create an impact on their thoughts and make them responsible to derive
solutions. Moreover students are encouraged to use modern innovation methods such as ICT which would optimize their teaching- learning activities as well as enhance their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills
in English language.
Promoting program on self-learning English app
Keeping in view the importance of English language for social and academic purposes, English Forum organized a program on promoting self-learning app ”Englishbolo” in college premises on Saturday i.e. 11/01/2020. The manager
of this online learning solutions app “Englishbolo” Mr.Narsing Das gave an elaborate demonstration on mode of registration and benefits of using it.
The main objective of using this app is to enhance the listening, speaking, reading and writing skills of the students and henceforth they attain fluency in using the English language. Students responded positively and
some of them showed willingness to register their names for using this app.
Power Point Presentation on Constitution of India
The aim of education is all round development of an individual. Education should provide the knowledge to encounter various challenges in all spheres of life. For this students should have necessary knowledge in all faculties
in order to lead in a systematic and organized way. Keeping this in view, English forum planned to conduct multidisciplinary activities where students from different disciplines will give power point presentations,
which would supplement the required knowledge in other disciplines.
It is important for every citizen to have the knowledge of civic education to be a good citizen. So, to revive the knowledge of duties, responsibilities and rights of the people a power point presentation was given by the
students on “Constitution of India” on 25th January at 11.40 a.m. in seminar hall. Apart from this student-teacher interaction was conducted with political science lecturer to clarify the doubts on Indian constitution.
Finally there was a debate conducted on latest amendments made on citizenship i.e. Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens. Students and faculty members expressed their views on the above issues.
English Department Field Trip -2020 to Hyderabad Literary Festival
In concern to every year’s routine activity, this year English department has taken our college students to Hyderabad Literary Festival (HLF) on 24th Jan, 2020 as a fieldtrip which is organized at Vidyaranya School located
at Nampally.
HLF is a prestigious, international event organized every year in the month of January with an objective to promote the brand image of Hyderabad as a city of creative energies. To this effect, it organized the events like
literary sessions, cultural programs, workshops, exhibition by book publishers, artisans, handloom weavers, entrepreneurs and as an encouragement physically challenged people are given chance to showcase their talent.
It gathers local, national and global writers on the same platform acting as a bridge between writers and readers, artists and audiences on the one hand and aspiring writers on the other hand. Some organizations participated
in the fest to propagate their services which would be inspiring to the visitors. Some foundations conducted cultural programs providing opportunities to the individuals to show case their talents.
This provides a great opportunity to the college students to have an exposure to such an inclusive event where they gain motivation and inspiration to stimulate their own hidden talents. As language teachers we could also
get a platform to inculcate interest towards literature and books. On the whole students could get an exposure to different observations which enables them conceptualize their ideas and shape their distinct perspectives.
National Workshop on “Research Methodology in English Language & Literature”
Department of English conducted one day National workshop on “Research Methodology in English Language & Literature” on 15th February 2020. In order to enhance the quality of education in the field of higher education,
UGC is encouraging faculty to take up research and publish papers. It has made the research degree as one of the essential qualifications for all individuals to be appointed as assistant professor at UG and PG level.
To talk about the word research, it is an attempt to add original contribution to the knowledge of truth. It is a search for accurate truth and new knowledge through arguments and findings. To sum up, research is a
serious scholarly composition objectified in its presentation. It must have a logical development, which evokes the researcher’s findings, using the techniques of observation and interpretation.
So, to be a good researcher, it is necessary to have a basic foundation on Research methods. The study of Research Methodology provides us the necessary training in choosing methods, materials, scientific tools and training
in techniques relevant for the problem chosen.
Keeping in view, the importance of research for teaching faculty, department of English decided to conduct a workshop on Research Methodology which would provide adequate knowledge for faculty and aspiring teachers.
